Casey Mize struggled in his first start since injuring his ankle in a 9-4 loss to the Rays on Friday evening. His final line showed 2 earned runs in 5 innings, but he allowed 7 runs in all with a 5-run 4th inning ultimately doing him in. After scoring 2 runs in the top of the 5th and 6th innings, the Padres came within 4 runs of the Rays, but that was as close as they came. With the Padres trailing by such a large margin, Craig Stammen was able to preserve his high leverage relievers and use David Morgan, Wandy Peralta and Griffin Canning while trailing. Walker Buehler will start for the Padres on Saturday.
