The Diamondbacks defeated the Padres 3-1 on Thursday night in a game where both teams combined for 6 total hits. Rich Hill got the start for the Padres and started off by tossing 3 scoreless innings. Former Padre Tommy Pham hit a 2-run homer in the 4th and Gabriel Moreno added a solo shot in the 5th. For the second time in less than a week, Zac Gallen was able to hold the Padres in check, limiting them to 1 run and 3 hits in 6.1 innings. Trent Grisham's RBI-single in the 5th inning was the Padres lone run. The Friars did make things interesting in the 9th against rookie closer Justin Martinez, as they were able to get two baserunners on and bring the potential winning run to the plate in Jake Cronenworth, but he struck out looking to end the game. The Padres will send Seth Lugo to the mound on Friday.
