Dylan Cease struck out 9 Nationals to complete his first career no-hitter and the second no-hitter in Padres history on Thursday afternoon in a 3-0 win to complete a sweep of the Nationals. Cease was sensational, generating a whopping 19 whiffs while walking just three batters over 114 pitches. The game began in an unconventional way, with the Padres loading the bases with 2 outs against Patrick Corbin in the 1st inning, only to have the game put on hold due to a rain delay. After a short delay, the game resumed and Ha-Seong Kim hit a bases-clearing double to put the Padres up 3-0. Those would be the only runs of the game, and Cease took care of business the rest of the way. The Padres now head to Baltimore for a 3-game series with the Orioles with a record of 55-50.
