The Padres have waited a long time for Michael King to return to the starting rotation, with the hopes of him rounding into form in time for the postseason. Making his second start since returning from the IL, King struggled mightily, allowing 8 earned runs on 10 hits, including 4 home runs, in just 3 innings of work. It was a step backwards following a promising start against the Reds last week. Tuesday's game featured plenty of round trippers, as the Padres and Mets combined for 7 total home runs. Jackson Merrill homered for the 3rd straight game, and 4th home run in his past five games, as he continues to show signs of becoming the offensive force he was as a rookie. Jake Cronenworth and Freddie Fermin also went deep, but it the deficit was too large to overcome after the Mets scored five runs in the 1st inning, two in the 2nd inning and another in the 4th. Nick Pivetta will start for the Padres on Wednesday.
