The Padres beat the Mets 2-1 on Saturday, giving them an opportunity to sweep a first place team on Sunday. Blake Snell was terrific, firing 5 shutout innings. Mets starter Chris Bassitt dazzled as well, taking a shutout into the 6th inning. With 2 strikes and 2 outs against Manny Machado with a runner on, Bassitt threw what should have been strike 3 to end the inning, but the pitch was called a ball, extending the at bat. On the very next pitch, Machado blasted a 2-run homer, which proved to be the game-winning hit. Nabil Crismatt, Adrian Morejon and Luis Garcia combined for 3 scoreless innings. Taylor Rogers entered in the 9th inning with a 2-run lead, and made things interesting. He allowed a run on 2 hits and a walk, but earned his 28th save of the season while stranding the tying run at third base.
