The Padres got their first win over the Pirates this season with a 5-1 win on Tuesday night. Blake Snell didn't have his best stuff, as he walked 5 and only threw 54 of his 102 pitches for strikes, but he was able to grind his way through 6 innings and only allow 1 run. After falling behind 1-0 in the 2nd inning, Manny Machado tied things up with a solo blast in the bottom half of the frame, and Gary Sanchez tacked on a run-scoring single to put the Padres on top 2-1. Juan Soto hit a mammoth homer in the 7th, and Sanchez added some insurance with a 2-run blast in the 8th. The game went exactly according to Bob Melvin's ideal script in terms of the pitching script, with Blake Snell exiting with the lead after 6, and handing things over to Steven Wilson, Robert Suarez and Josh Hader. The 3 relievers combined to pitch 3 scoreless frames, as the Padres finally emerged victorious against the Pirates. Seth Lugo will aim to win the rubber match of this series on Wednesday.
