On a day when the Padres bought at the trade deadline rather than sold, they bounced back from a crushing defeat the night before and beat the Rockies 8-5 on Tuesday. The Padres started Pedro Avila as part of a bullpen game, and despite allowing 8 baserunners in 4 innings, he delivered, only allowing 1 run and giving his team a chance to win. Fernando Tatis Jr. drove in the game-tying and go-ahead RBIs in the 2nd and 5th innings, while Juan Soto blasted a 3-run homer in the 5th inning and a solo shot in the 8th. Things got a little dicey when Steven Wilson allowed a 3-run homer to pull the Rockies to within a run, but San Diego's bats showed up and added 3 more runs after that, as the Padres look to make a run following Tuesday's acquisitions.
