The Padres beat the Rockies 9-6 on Friday, thanks to an offensive outburst from their offense. Every starter got at least one hit, and Fernando Tatis Jr., Juan Soto, Manny Machado, Xander Bogaerts and Jake Cronenworth each had multiple hits. Gary Sanchez launched his 5th home run in 10 games in brown and gold and Yu Darvish earned his 100th career win despite not having his best stuff. Darvish navigated Coors Field by allowing 4 runs in 5.1 innings with 6 strikeouts, but also issued 4 free passes.
Nick Martinez had an uncharacteristically rough outing, as he entered with a 9-4 lead in the 8th inning, but allowed 2 runs on 3 hits, creating a save situation for Josh Hader. Hader entered in the 9th and made things interesting by issuing a walk, and allowing a single, which brought the tying run to the plate, but he induced a groundout from Elias Diaz to end the game and earn his 14th save of the season.
