The Padres defeated the Royals 4-3 on Saturday, overcoming an early 3-run deficit. Yu Darvish gave up 3 runs in the 1st inning, but was flawless after that, allowing just those 3 runs over 7 innings. Wil Myers was one of the offensive catalysts for the Padres, hitting a 2-run homer in the 2nd inning to bring the Friars within a run. Manny Machado tied the game an inning later with an RBI-single, and Brandon Drury put the Padres on top for good with an RBI-single of his own in the 3rd. All 7 runs were scored within the first three innings of this game, as both bullpens shutdown the opposing offenses thereafter. After a tumultuous few weeks leading to Josh Hader being removed from the closer role, Nick Martinez was called upon to close things out in the 9th inning, and he did just that, earning his 6th save of the season.
