The Padres won their fourth consecutive game and set themselves up for an opportunity to sweep the Mets with a 7-1 win on Tuesday night. Ryan Bergert pitched admirably after being called up for a spot start, allowing just one run in four innings. The Padres' bullpen did what they've done for the majority of the year, and that's shutting down opponents. Jeremiah Estrada, Wandy Peralta, Adrian Morejon, Yuki Matsui and Ron Marinaccio combined for five shutout frames in relief. Perhaps more importantly, San Diego's offense continued to show signs of life, scoring at least seven runs in their third straight game. The Padres held a 2-1 lead entering the bottom of the 7th inning, with the outcome of the game still hanging in the balance. But the Padres hung five runs on the board to blow the game wide open. Elias Diaz delivered for the second night in a row, delivering a 2-run double to make it a 4-1 lead. Manny Machado punctuated the inning by blasting a no-doubt-about-it 3-run homer to give the Padres a 7-1 lead. Yu Darvish will start the Padres' final game before the trade deadline and hope to sweep the Mets out of Petco Park.
