The Padres lost a heartbreaker to the Dodgers on Sunday, blowing a 2-1 lead with two outs in the 9th inning. Joe Musgrove pitched really well, allowing just one unearned run in 5 innings. The Padres scored two runs in the first inning on RBI-doubles from Manny Machado and Xander Bogaerts. Josh Hader was called on to protect a one-run lead in the 9th inning and secure a series win against the Padres' NL West rival. After retiring Trayce Thompson and Chris Taylor, Mookie Betts delivered a game-tying home run with LA down to their final out. The Dodgers would score three runs in the top of the 10th on an RBI-single from rookie Michael Busch and a 2-run homer from James Outman. Dodgers closer Evan Phillips then pitched a 1-2-3 10th inning, sitting down Tatis, Machado and Soto in order. The Padres have a day off on Monday before beginning a 6-game road trip against the Twins and Dodgers.
