The Padres beat the Royals for the second game in a row, thanks to another strong offensive performance. Fernando Tatis blasted a solo homer to straight away center field in to put the Padres up 1-0 in the 1st inning, which was the beginning of perhaps his best game of the season, reaching base 4 times. Vinnie Pasquantino responded with a 2-run homer in the bottom half of the frame. Luis Arraez drove in the Padres' 2nd run with a sacrifice fly in the 3rd inning to tie the game, but once again, Pasquantino put Kansas City right back on top in the bottom of the 3rd with an RBI-single. Ha-Seong Kim put the Padres on top for good in the 4th inning with a bases clearing 3-run double. The Padres added two insurance runs in the 9th, including a solo homer by Kyle Higashioka, for good measure. Mike Shildt used by Jeremiah Estrada and Robert Suarez for the second game in a row, likely making them unavailable on Sunday as the Padres go for the sweep.
Randy Vasquez pitched admirably in place of Joe Musgrove, who was placed on the 15-day IL earlier in the day, allowing 3 runs in 5 innings. The Padres will turn to Michael King on Sunday, followed by Matt Waldron in Monday's series opener against the Angels, before having to make a decision for who will start in place of Yu Darvish on Tuesday, as he was also placed on the 15-day IL earlier in the day.
