The Padres dropped Sunday's series finale against the Rangers 4-3, losing the series in the process and cementing a 4-5 record on this road trip. After Lucas Giolito allowed a 3-run homer to Wyatt Langford in the 3rd inning, the Padres clawed back into the game, manufacturing 3 runs of their own in the top of the 4th inning on run-scoring hits from Gavin Sheets, Xander Bogaerts and Sun-Mung Song. The Friars had an opportunity to take the lead in the inning, but Sheets was thrown out at the plate on Bogaerts' single to center field, as Crag Stammen said postgame that it was early enough in the game at that point to be aggressive on the basepaths and took perfect execution from the Rangers to nail Sheets at home. Josh Jung put the Rangers back on top 4-3 with an RBI-single in the bottom of the 4th inning, and that would be the final run of the game, as the Rangers held on to win 4-3. The Padres now return home to face the two top teams in the National League in the Braves and Dodgers beginning on Monday.
