The Padres cruised to an easy 9-2 win over the Cardinals on Sunday to earn a series split in their four-game set in St. Louis, and finish their 10-game road trip with a 5-5 record. The Padres' offense pummeled Cardinals' starter Michael McGreevy, hammering him for 7 earned runs on 9 hits and 2 walks in just 4.2 innings. The big cushion allowed Stephen Kolek to breeze through six innings, allowing just a 2-run homer in the 6th inning when the score was already out of reach. The large margin also allowed San Diego's high-leverage relievers to have a much needed day of rest. The top three in the Padres' lineup exploded, as Fernando Tatis Jr., Luis Arraez and Manny Machado combined to go 9-14 plus a walk, five runs scored and 4 RBIs. Sunday's win was an all-around effort that led to a sorely-needed low-stress win to end the road trip. The Padres return home on Monday to host the 1st place Mets.
