The Padres lost a back and forth affair to the Mariners in Seattle on Monday night, in a slugfest that featured six total home runs and three lead changes. The Padres responded to Cal Raleigh's 1st inning home run by hitting three of their own in the second inning, as Jake Cronenworth, Gavin Sheets and Fernando Tatis each went deep to put the Padres on top 4-1. Jorge Polanco immediately responded with a 2-run homer off of JP Sears in the bottom of the frame to bring Seattle within a run. Sears would load the bases with no outs in the 4th inning, and after getting JP Crawford to ground into a double play that brought in the tying run, he was pulled in favor of David Morgan.

Morgan ran into trouble in the 5th inning, as he hit a batter, issued two walks and two hits, and was ultimately charged with five earned runs. The Padres had an opportunity to tie the game in the 8th inning, when Ramon Laureano came up with the bases loaded and 2 outs with the Padres trailing 9-5. But he struck out, ending the Padres' best chance to get back in the game. The Padres will attempt to bounce back with Dylan Cease on the mound on Tuesday.
