The Padres were blanked by Kyle Freeland and the Rockies 3-0 at Coors Field on Friday night, accounting for just 3 total hits. Freeland struck out 10 and allowed just 2 hits over 8 scoreless frames, as the Padres' offense never got going in the high altitude of Coors Field. Nick Pivetta overcame his past struggles at Coors Field for the most part, allowing just 2 runs over 6 innings to earn a quality start, despite giving up 7 hits and 2 free passes. Rockies catcher Hunter Goodman did most of the damage against the Padres, connecting on a solo home run in the 3rd inning and an RBI-double in the 7th. The Padres had a chance to even the score in the 9th inning when Luis Arraez drew a leadoff walk, followed by a single from Fernando Tatis Jr., bringing the tying run to the plate with no outs. But Ryan O'Hearn flew out to left field and Manny Machado grounded into a game-ending double play. Randy Vasquez will be called back up to start for the Padres on Saturday.
