The Padres cruised to an 8-1 victory over the Giants on Wednesday night, thanks to four long balls and terrific pitching. Manny Machado hit his first home run since July 29th, while Ryan O'Hearn and Gavin Sheets drew starts against righty Landon Roupp, and combined to go 4-7 with 3 home runs and 6 RBIs. Sheets' 3-run homer in the 3rd inning was the knockout blow, extending San Diego's lead to 6-0. JP Sears made his second start as a member of the Padres, and allowed just one run in six innings on a solo home run to Casey Schmitt in the 4th inning. Just to make sure the Padres excelled in all facets of the game, Fernando Tatis showed why he is a Platinum Glove winner in the 1st inning, when he made a leaping catch at the wall to rob a home run from Rafael Devers. It was a complete performance from the Padres on a night when the Dodgers lost as well, narrowing their lead to just one game with a big weekend series at Petco Park looming. Dylan Cease will face off against Justin Verlander in Thursday's series finale.
