The Padres swept the AL West leading Rangers, thanks to a 5-3 win on Sunday afternoon. With the trade deadline rapidly approaching, Blake Snell allowed just one unearned run and struck out 9 amid rumors of possibly being traded. After the game, Snell told The Athletic's Dennis Lin he didn't think he was going anywhere. Ha-Seong Kim left the game in the 3rd inning after injuring his shoulder on a sliding play at home plate that scored the Padres first run of the game. Bob Melvin said after the game that Kim jammed his shoulder and is considered day-to-day. Gary Sanchez was the offensive hero of the game, swatting two home runs, including a tie-breaking solo homer in the 4th inning and a crucial solo home run in the 5th inning that served as an insurance run at the time, but proved to be the game-winning run, as the Rangers, added two runs in the 6th inning on Marcus Semien's 2-run single. Things got interesting in the 9th inning with the Padres leading by 2 runs. Josh Hader loaded the bases with 2 outs, putting the game-tying run in scoring position. But he was able to get Josh Jung foul out to right field to end the game and secure the sweep. The Padres will have an opportunity to win a 4th consecutive game for the first time all season when they play the Rockies at Coors Field on Monday.
