The Padres dropped both games in Saturday's doubleheader, dropping them to 44-49. The early game was an especially tough loss to swallow, as Trent Grisham's 3-run blast in the 2nd inning gave the Padres an early 3-run cushion. Blake Snell fired 5 shutout innings, but wasn't able to continue due to the heat and conditions of the day. After Steven Wilson and Nick Martinez combined to give up 3 runs, Manny Machado put the Padres back on top with a solo homer in the top of the 8th inning. But once again, the Padres bullpen faltered, giving up 3 runs in the bottom of the 8th inning, as the Padres lost by a score of 6-4.

The Padres held a 2-1 lead in the 5th inning of Game 2, but Ryan Weathers gave up a 3-run home run to Kyle Schwarber, which would turn out to be all the Phillies needed. Philadelphia would continue to batter San Diego's bullpen however, adding 2 runs in the 6th and 3 more in the 7th, as the Phillies won 9-4. Fernando Tatis Jr. exited the game after appearing to limp some after going for a ball off the right field wall. Bob Melvin said after the game that Tatis twisted his ankle and should be considered day-to-day.
