The Padres beat the Braves 3-1 behind a strong performance from Matt Waldron against one of the best teams in baseball. Waldron struck out 10 hitters and allowed just one run in 5.2 innings pitched. Trailing 1-0 in the 5th inning, the Padres rallied for all three of their runs on RBI-singles from Jurickson Profar and Jake Cronenworth, along with an RBI-fielder's choice from Manny Machado. Mike Shildt also used his closer in an unconventional way, bringing him in to pitch the 8th inning against the heart of Atlanta's lineup with a 3-1 lead, highlighting the importance of tonight's game. While Suarez did give up two hits, he was able to escape the inning unscathed thanks to two strikeouts. Jeremiah Estrada was called upon for the first save opportunity of his career, and delivered in a big way, striking out the side, as the Padres improved to 23-24.
