San Diego FC and the Vancouver Whitecaps faced off at Snapdragon Stadium with 1st place in the Western Conference on the line. SDFC entered the match with a 1 point lead in the standings, meaning a win or a draw would keep them atop the standings, while a loss would allow Vancouver to overtake them. Vancouver took the lead with a goal in the 40th minute on a rebound shot that was declared an own goal. SDFC again controlled the match, winning the time of possession battle and notching twice as many shots and shots on goal. Their moment came in the 79th minute on a beautiful equalizer by Ian Pilcher off of a rebound from a corner kick. SDFC missed on an opportunity for a penalty kick prior to the equalizer, on a play that appeared to be a hand ball by Vancouver inside the box was ruled to be unintentional with the defender's hand in a natural position after a long VAR. With the point earned from the draw, SDFC remains in 1st place in the Western Conference, and will welcome Nashville SC to Snapdragon on Friday night.
