8 Emmy-Nominated Shows You Still Have to Binge

By Eldis Sula, Audacy

Sometimes you need an event like the Emmys to remind you of all the great shows that came out the last year.

At a time when streaming is more prevalent than ever -- 60% of Americans watch shows and movies on streaming services -- it's never been easier to catch up on the nominees.

Whether you like watching them one episode per sitting or devouring entire series in a few super-charged binge nights, the options at your fingertips for gripping, award-nominated television shows are plentiful.

Now that you've seen the winners and their purple carpet fits, you can binge the year's buzziest shows at your own leisure. These are this year’s most-nominated shows, and where to stream them.

Fleabag

Created by and starring Phoebe Waller-Bridge, "Fleabag" follows the story of a young English woman who struggles to make sense of life and love following the tragic loss of her best friend. Although the first season was a breath of fresh air in its own right -- dripping with lightning-fast sardonic dialogue -- the second season ups the ante, loaded with heartbreaking drama that doesn't lean on humor as a crutch, featuring the most forbidden of love interests, and chipping away at Fleabag's fourth wall, a security blanket of meta-asides addressed to the camera and viewers.

Nominations: 11

Wins: 4, including Outstanding Writing, Best Comedy Series, Best Directing, and Lead Actress in a Comedy

Stream on: Amazon

Chernobyl

No one does miniseries quite like HBO. "Chernobyl" is a gripping five-episode odyssey recounting the 1980s Soviet nuclear meltdown from every angle you can imagine -- the residents who were displaced, the first responders who were lethally exposed to radiation, the scientists who tried to clean up the unfathomable mess, and the politicians who tried to cover it up. Maybe one of the most jaw-dropping aspects of this visceral tale is that the taut, comprehensive series was written by Craig Mazin, known for writing the second and third sequels of the chaotic boys' trip series "The Hangover."

Nominations: 19

Wins: 10, including Best Limited Series

Stream on: HBO Go, HBO Now

Escape at Dannemora

Based on a real-life prison break in upstate New York that spawned a news-fodder manhunt, this seven-episode drama is proof that real life is stranger than fiction. Featuring unlikely collaborators Patricia Arquette, Benicio Del Toro and Paul Dano delivering raw performances, this ruthless, unrelenting tale about people searching for hope in the grim reality of small-town prison life is a punch in the gut. You'll be pulled in by the drama, reflect on unexpected artful cinematography, and be impressed that the show is directed by Ben Stiller.

Nominations: 12

Stream on: Showtime Anytime, SHO.com

Sharp Objects

A Southern Gothic for the 21st century, you won't be able to stop watching this atmospheric psychological thriller. Starring Amy Adams in what may be her most vulnerable role yet and Patricia Clarkson in a controlling mother role worthy of "Mommie Dearest," this eight-episode case study of Munchausen disorder will leave you biting your nails in unnerving anticipation, even when you're not sure exactly what's going on.

Nominations: 8

Stream on: HBO Go, HBO Now

Succession

This razor-sharp series takes a look at the twisted and hilarious dynamics of the family behind a massive, supremely wealthy news media empire. Created by co-creator of the British cult classic "Peep Show," with Adam McKay and Will Ferrell among its executive producers, "Succession" shows how blurred the lines between comedy and drama can be. Shakespearian in its willingness to go high and low, to scramble genres and keep track of a huge ensemble cast, this story of the Roy family is essential TV.

Nominations: 5

Wins: 1, Outstanding Writing for a Drama Series

Stream on: HBO Go, HBO Now

Game of Thrones

If you're one of the few uninitiated who has yet to watch "Game of Thrones," there's no better time to start than now. You probably won't be able to finish this fantasy epic by the time the Emmys air this Sunday, but if you're ambitious, just know that these hour-long episodes go down easy.

Nominations: 32

Wins: 12, including Outstanding Drama Series

Stream on: HBO Go, HBO Now

Barry

Bill Hader made a splash with his dark comedy "Barry," which he co-created and stars in. The show is about his title character, a hitman who travels from the Midwest and ends up joining an acting class taught by Henry Winkler's character. The show earned Hader an Emmy last year for Lead Actor and Winkler for Supporting Actor.

Nominations: 17

Wins: 1, Lead Actor in a Comedy Series

Stream on: HBO Go, HBO Now

Killing Eve

Based on the novellas by Luke Jennings, "Killing Eve" elevates the spy-action thriller with two standout performances by Sandra Oh and Jodie Comer. The show is about a simultaneous dance of death and two-way obsession between Eve (played by Oh), a security office who wants to break out of her desk job and be a spy, and Villanelle (played by Comer), a talented killer who is really, really good at her job.

Nominations: 9

Wins: 1, Lead Actress in a Drama Series

Stream on: Hulu, iTunes, Amazon
