Is it too much to ask to let a fella bang on the drum all day?

Todd Rundgren is set to be inducted as part of the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame’s Class of 2021. However, Rundgren has no interest in attending the induction ceremony. Why? Well, partially because he’s busy banging on the drum all day. However, as he says in a new interview with TMZ, he just doesn’t care much about the institution.

Rundgren will be inducted into the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame this Saturday and opened up to TMZ on why he’s not going to be joining the festivities in Cleveland.

“For me personally, I've never cared much about the Hall of Fame,'' Rundgren said before adding that he didn't plan to “go to any special effort” to support it.

“It’s something that my fans wanted more than I did,” he said.

After detailing his issues on how music doesn’t have tangible metrics like sports does to measure an individual’s success, Rundgren slammed the Rock Hall’s fan vote.

“They’re not honest with the fans about what power they have,” he said. “The fans have practically no power to influence who gets into the Hall.”

Rundgren went on to describe what happened during the first year he was nominated. “My fans really went to the barricades and they voted me up to number three,” he said.

“When the actual induction list came out, it was one, two, four, five, six, seven, eight, nine. [I was] conspicuously absent and I think my fans felt pretty burnt about it as well. That really annoyed me.”
