Can you work with someone without liking them?

That's the question for our Dr. Miles Intervention this morning, after we received an email from a woman who is having some issues with her boss.

Apparently during her performance review, she was asked how important it was for an employee to have a good personal relationship with their boss. When she replied that she didn't think it was that important, her boss asked her if she liked him.

She responded..."no."

Now all of a sudden, she's starting to have some issues at work. She feels she is being treated badly for her answer, and believes her boss is now taking a personal vendetta against her for saying she doesn't like him.

Now herein lies the question: Is it ok to NOT like your boss? Do you have to like someone in order to work with, or for them.

At the end of the day, what matters is job performance, and the personal relationships shouldn't matter, right?
