What started as a tranquil walk on the beach turned into something straight out of a horror movie Sunday morning!

Animal remains, including headless carcasses of two goats, three chickens, and a pigeon, were found on Galveston Island Sunday morning around 6:30 in the morning, and the police believe they know the cause.

Galveston Animal Control Officials told KPRC-TV they believe the remains were left on the beach as part of a Santeria animal sacrifice ceremony.

Lt. Joel Caldwell with Galveston Police said that it's not the first time, either, that animal remains from a sacrifice ritual were found along the beach.

While the US Supreme Court ruled in 1993 that animal sacrifice as part of a religious ceremony are protected acts of faith, the individuals that left the remains on the beach may be ticketed for not disposing of them properly.

And if they weren't sacrificed humanely, animal cruelty charges are also possible.
