Robert Hughes Sr. served as the head basketball coach for Fort Worth's Dunbar High School from 1973 to 2005.
He's the winningest coach in high school basketball history, accumulating a 1,333-265 record, five state championships, and 35 district championships over his 47-year career. He was even inducted into the Naismith Basketball Hall of Fame in 2017.
Well Hughes is about to add another accolade to his storied career, as the Stop Six neighborhood in Fort Worth, of which Hughes is a former resident, will be naming a 210-unit, mixed-use, mixed-income community in the Stop Six Choice Neighborhood Initiative after the legendary coach.
Hughes House will be located at 4830 and 4908 E. Rosedale St., east and west of Amanda Avenue. Fort Worth Housing Solutions is seeking 9% low-income housing tax credits to help finance the build. Hughes House will include 166 units offered at reduced rents to qualified residents, though 44 units would be available at market rates.
