A minor league basketball game between the Toledo Glass City and the Jamestown Jackals turned into a terrifying situation after referee John Sculli collapsed onto the floor, and laid motionless for several moments.
Thankfully Sculli is alive and set for surgery, all thanks to Toledo basketball player Myles Copeland.
Copeland, who is also a firefighter, immediately rushed to Sculli and didn't feel a pulse. He then started performing CPR with the help of another referee until paramedics could arrive.
Copeland told TMZ, "It was kind of instinctual. It surprised me how quick I was able to switch into that mode, especially being in a basketball game. But, with being a firefighter, when you're off the job, you're really not off the job. You still got to keep an eye out for the community and what's going on around you."
Copeland drove straight to New York for the game after working a 24-hour shift. He continued saying, "I didn't feel like I went out of my way to do anything special. It's just what I was put here to do. God was able to work through me. I feel like other people see me differently as a hero, but I don't see myself any different."
By the way, his team won the game, 96-93.
