There are things we all learn late in life that we probably should've known already. Most of these little factoids are innocent and forgivable.
Comedian Chelsea Handler is putting that notion to the test though, as she the 47-year-old recently revealed that it wasn't until the age of 40 that she learned that the sun and the moon were two entirely different entities.
Handler explained to Jimmy Fallon on The Tonight Show that she learned the sun and moon were in fact different things while on a trip to Africa.
Handler told Fallon, "We were on safari. My sister and I were riding an elephant and there was a man riding an elephant for us, because we don't know how to ride an elephant. And my older sister, Simone looked up at the sky and she said, 'Chelsea, Chelsea, look up. It's not often you get to see the sun and the moon at the same time.'
"I was like Scooby-Doo. I'm like, 'Ruh, wah?' I said, I go, 'Wait. But they're always together.' And as soon as I said that, she turned around, and she goes, 'What did you say?'"
Handler told Fallon she knew what she said was wrong and that she "just tried to gloss over it," but her sister demanded further explanation.
"She said, 'No. I need you to tell me what you think is happening between the sun and the moon,' and I was like, 'Honestly, I just assumed when the sun went down, it popped back up as the moon."
Handler concluded the story telling Fallon, "The man riding the elephant spoke no English and went, 'Pfft!' And he's just like, 'Another dumb American, you know?"
