Couples are turning to Facebook Marketplace to find potential sperm donors because of the pandemic

Couples are trying to start grow their families more than ever. Because of the ongoing pandemic however, they are having a hard time finding facilities to accommodate their needs, if they incapable of having children on their own.

So, many folks have turned to another source to find potential donors to jumpstart their families: Facebook Marketplace.


Shannon and Sheila Sweeney-Garcia married shortly after first meeting five years ago, and have thought about children ever since. But they've have trouble starting a family.

Most sperm banks are way out of their price range they told NBC Connecticut, so they turned to Facebook, and found a potential donor on the site's Marketplace section.

While using Facebook as a market for sperm is definitely cheaper, some legal issues may arise by avoiding going to a sperm bank.

The FDA says that "any establishment (individual, partnership, corporation, association or other legal entity) engaged in the manufacture (recovery, processing, storage, labeling, packaging or distribution)" of human cells, tissues or cellular or tissue based products must register with FDA and follow their regulations."
