When Alan Alcantra went to the Mets game yesterday, he had no idea he would be leaving Citi Field as a nominee for Father of the Year.
In the bottom of the first, Mets' star Starling Marte hit a moonshot home run to center field, heading right towards where Alcantra and his 1-year-old son were sitting.
Now anyone who's gone to a baseball game live has had the dream of catching a home run, and Alcantra fulfilled that dream! AND, he did caught the ball one-handed, so while holding Levin in his other arm!
Alcantra said per MLB, "I knew I was not going to have time to put the baby down, so I decided to just hold on tight to him, jump on the rail and see if I could catch the ball. And we did."
The Alcantaras were at the game as part of an organized church group. Alan said he'd never caught a foul ball or home run before.
"Instinct. In the Dominican Republic, we don't all get to have gloves, so we do play baseball barehanded, so I figured I could do it. I did it many times when I was a kid, so why not?"
