A man and his wife desperate for kids received the unfortunate news that he would essentially never be able to father children of his own.

So, the couple adopted a son, a little boy from Vietnam named Thien.

Though the man had a family name that spanned five generations, and the plan was always to give his firstborn the family name.  The man's named August V, so, with his wife's permissions, they renamed their new, adopted son August VI.

Well seven years later, the man says a "miracle" happened, and his wife became pregnant, and gave birth to a healthy baby boy.

The man has now decided to give his new, biological son the family name, and says that his now adopted seven-year-old "didn't understand or care," and goes by Thien to almost everyone, anyway.

Well the parents had to inform the school of the name change, word got out, and they received a ton of backlash for their actions.  The dad wrote, "We're now essentially social pariahs and the subject of massive gossip – accusations of not loving Thien enough."

And the backlash didn't top there.  The man took to Reddit to see if the was truly in the wrong for the act, and the since-deleted post has sparked a wave of criticism for his actions.

The top comment simply stated: "People like you shouldn't really adopt."  Another added, "You dragged your kid to a legal proceeding to make sure he knows his place will always be less than your bio son."
