Audrey Kuga is a server at a restaurant in Dallas who recently had a table come in that ordered the works; plenty of food, drinks, and extras that amounted to a $300 bill.
Unfortunately, the card the customer was trying to use was declined, and Kuga's bosses said SHE was the one responsible for paying the entire tab.
Kuga posted a TikTok of the incident that has quickly gone viral, where she claims she paid the entire $300 bill just so she could go home.
Regarding if this practice is illegal or not, according to the Department of Labor, apparently restaurants can deduct unpaid tabs from servers' paychecks as long as a server still receives the full minimum wage of $7.25.
However, Kelsey Erickson Streufort, a spokeswoman for the Texas Restaurant Association , says that "in most instances, restaurants absorb this cost to protect their team members and maintain a positive work environment."
The Dallas Morning News reached out to Kuga for a comment, but she has not responded. Kuga also did not name the restaurant anywhere on social media.
