The Stars and Mavericks are currently embroiled in a legal battle over the American Airlines Center.
Though the lease for both teams ends in 2031, it’s looking like both franchises will be moving to a new arena sooner rather than later.
The Stars have been eyeing several spots around North Dallas for a new home and are reportedly interested in setting up shop on the site of Willow Bend Mall in Plano.
The mall has been under redevelopment for years, though many spaces remain open; the Neiman Marcus at the mall is set to close by the beginning of 2027, and another anchor, Macy’s, left earlier this year.
The site covers 107 acres. Previously, Brad Alberts, president of the Dallas Stars, said the team was looking for at least 75 acres of land to build an arena and surrounding area.
According to Dallas Morning News, if the Stars choose to leave Dallas, they would need to decide on a new site in the next six to eight months and begin construction in 2028 or 2029 to be ready for the 2031-32 season.
