Planning your pregnancy isn’t an abnormal act for parents, though these days some folks are planning their pregnancies to make sure their babies are born during the most desirable zodiac sign.
According to Vice, the belief in zodiac signs is prevalent among multiple aspiring parents in America who plan when they want to conceive their child.
Mackenzie Warren, an Aquarius mom, said she and her husband had hoped their first child would be a Scorpio, like her dad.
The couple stopped using birth control once they were near the threshold for conceiving a Scorpio, but their daughter was born early, and ended up being a Libra. Warren said, “We delayed trying for our next by a month, hoping to avoid a Pisces.” Neither she nor her husband’s zodiac typically get along well with the sign.
Because becoming a parent comes with so much stress and uncertainty, prospective parents these days will seemingly do anything to relieve themselves of the fears that come with having a child.
Aiyana Willard, a psychology lecturer at Brunel University London who researches the cultural evolution of religion and supernatural beliefs, says, “Expecting parents are under a lot of stress. They want to provide the best possible outcomes for their child, but may feel that much of it is outside of their control.
“This type of uncertainty makes people very uncomfortable, particularly when the stakes are high—such as the future success and well-being of a child.”
