Data compiled by Porch utilizing FBI's Crime Data Explorer found that crimes during the holidays account for nearly 8.1% of crimes across the entire year.
These stats are something that residents of Dallas-Fort Worth are, unfortunately, all too familiar with.
A study conducted by Porch found that Texas ranked as the tenth worst state in terms of costliest holiday burglaries. On average, Texans lost $2,693 in property during the month of December.
DFW ranked sixth for metros in the same study, with residents losing $3,533 in estimated value property.
Per WFAA, , nearly 5,000 homes were burglarized on Christmas Eve or Christmas Day nationwide last year.
Data showed nearly 2,700 happened on the 24th, with the other 2,200-plus occurring on the 25th.
