While playing in Troup High School’s homecoming game last year, Cooper Reid sustained a severe head injury, resulting in a traumatic brain injury.

He returned to the football field last Friday though, where he was crowned Troup High School’s homecoming king.

Cooper’s mother Susan said she felt “blessed” to share the field with her son, and told FOX51 in Tyler that the community’s support over the last year has been continually “amazing,” saying, ”We are very fortunate to be a part of the community who stands by their people and loves one another and are faithful and kind."

Cooper has had multiple stints at various hospitals over the last year, undergoing an immense amount of physical therapy as he works on his recovery.

He’s enrolled back in school though, and his family is hopeful he will be able to graduate with his classmates.
