Has society reached a point where the idea of the nuclear family has gone by the wayside?
The idea of a married couple having a couple of kids together seems to have taken a backseat to new ideas of co-parenting, sometimes between two complete strangers.
According to BioEdge, this is a "new phenomenon picking up speed," with two strangers making plans to conceive children and raise them, without having any sort of relationship between the "parents."
In fact, there have been a "growing number" of website dedicated to helping match "potential co-parents."
As it stands, there is still very little data gathered on the results and effects of strangers co-parenting.
Dr. Susan Golombok, director of the University of Cambridge's Centre for Family Research and author of We Are Family, said, "We don't yet know how children will feel about their family situation, and how it will play out over time. It is possible, though, that taking away romantic baggage could even make for a more stable environment."
