We all know Austin as home of the Longhorns, but it's been the hawks that only residents of a certain neighborhood have been talking about.
According to the Austin American Statesman, hawks have attacked multiple people in Austin's Travis Heights neighborhood, using their talons to scratch the heads, necks and backs of people running down the street, mowing their lawns, or just walking around.
Alfred Del Barrio lives in the house behind the hawks' tree. He told the Statesman, "They're majestic, beautiful animals, but like, it sucks. We can't even walk out to an Uber. I run out to Ubers with my arms covering my head."
Other neighbors have resorted to carrying large umbrellas whenever they walk outside to protect themselves, and even mail delivery to the neighborhood has been suspended temporarily to protect carriers.
Unfortunately, there isn't a whole lot the neighborhood can do as the hawks are protected by are protected by both Texas and federal law, making it illegal to destroy a nest that has eggs or chicks in it or if the fledglings are still dependent on the nest for survival.
