The high-speed rail from Dallas to Houston may have taken another step to fruition, with a quick stop in Funky Town on the way.

Michael Morris, the leading North Texas transportation planner told NBC DFW he's proposed a high-speed rail connecting Dallas and Fort Worth, with an additional stop to Arlington added in the future.

This is great news for Arlington, as the city currently does not have traditional mass transit.

Arlington Transportation Director Alicia Winkelblech said, "It's real to us. We've been working on it for several years. We're serious about it. We're continuing to work on it.  Something like high-speed rail provides a fast efficient high-speed solution for people to get to Arlington."

Morris believes that the Fort Worth leg could have environmental approval in 13 months.

The preferred route of this high-speed rail is the public right of way along I-30, with planners saying an Arlington station along I-30 "could be linked to DFW Airport and the Arlington sports venues with some type of above-ground automated transportation system."

The rail from Dallas to Houston still faces opposition from communities in the middle of the route, but so far there has been no organized opposition for the potential Dallas to Fort Worth plans.
