A few weeks ago, many people were shocked by an ESPN exposé revealing a secret settlement for Dallas Cowboys Cheerleaders who felt violated. The behind-the-scenes payout was reportedly worth $2.4 billion when they signed paperwork in 2016. On Friday, team owner Jerry Jones spoke to NBCDFW about the issue publicly for the first time.

Anchor Meredith Land asked the Cowboys GM why they chose to settle rather than battle the voyeurism claims in court. Jones responded:

"First of all, the cheerleaders are iconic. We took these allegations very seriously. We immediately began an investigation into the situation. I can assure you that had we found that it need be, there would have been firings or suspensions. As it turns out, in the best interest of our cheerleaders, the organization, our fans, we decided to show the cheerleaders how seriously we took these allegations and so the settlement was the way to go."
