Tony Zou is a 33-year-old investor who invested his life savings with Quadriga CX, Canada’s largest cryptocurrency exchange.
He entrusted his $500,000, most of which was given to him by his parents, to the company’s co-founder Gerald “Gerry” Cotten.
Unfortunately, a mysterious incident on his honeymoon led to Cotten’s death in 2018, and with it, thousands of customers’ money, including Zhou’s, because Cotten was the only one who had the password!
Zou told Sky News, “It just makes me more depressed about it. I could have invested it in real estate. I could have put it in stocks. So far, nothing’s been found. It sucks.”
Some 76,000 investors have lost access to their accounts, amounting to an astonishing $250 MILLION!
Zou initially resorted to investing in cryptocurrency to avoid bank charges when moving to Vancouver, shifting his money from the US to a Canadian account.
The 33-year-old is currently embroiled in a lawsuit to try and get his money back, but hasn’t had any luck as yet.
