In April 2022, Connor Spitzig of Venice, California was one of twelve people who got stuck on the Mr. Freeze ride at Six Flags over Texas.
An electric malfunction caused the ride to stall and catch fire, resulting in Spitzig and the other riders becoming trapped in a tunnel which soon filled with smoke. At the time, WFAA reported that one staff member was treated for a minor injury, while four guests were transported to the hospital "out of an abundance of caution."
Now, Spitzig has filed a lawsuit as one of the riders treated for smoke inhalation at the hospital, claiming that Six Flags employees "failed to deploy [a backup system to evacuate riders with a special tool to release the restraints] for an unreasonable and extended amount of time as documented on the lengthy 911 call."
"The delay and failure to extricate the riders kept them trapped in their seats while the Mr. Freeze was on fire, increasing the injuries and trauma to the riders, and could have cost them their lives," the lawsuit reads.
According to WFAA, Spitzig is seeking over $1 million in damages and a jury trial.
