The Dallas Mavericks are once again making sure thousands of families wil not go hungry this Thanksgiving holiday.
The team has partnered with Minnie's Food Pantry for their annual turkey giveaway, in which the team is expected to help donate a full Thanksgiving dinner to over 4,000 families.
Dr. Cheryl Jackson founded Minnie's Food Pantry, naming it after her late mother, which continues to be a staple of the North Texas community. She told NBC DFW, "We take out the stigma of people who need help to be looked down on."
However, the pandemic made her mission that much harder. "It's more difficult because the need is so much greater than before. Before the pandemic, we were feeding maybe 1,000 to 3,000 families when the pandemic hit, we went up to 30,000. Now we are averaging 10,000-15,000 in a normal month," she said.
Together with the Mavericks, Minnie's Food Pantry expects to feed 4,000 families TOMORROW November 20 a full meal which includes "a turkey with all the trimmings, Mavs t-shirts, face masks and hand sanitizers, as well as additional Mavs and Mavs gaming promo items and NBA 2K22 posters," according to a press release.
