Steven Spielberg was inspired to create the 1985 film The Goonies after learning of the legend of the Santo Cristo de Burgos, a 17th century Spanish ship long thought to be lost after getting shipwrecked.
Well, the Santo Cristo de Burgos is lost no longer.
Explorers in Oregon recently discovered part of the ship in some sea caves after a search that has lasted the better part of 15 years.
"Powerful tides made for a tricky and dangerous operation that had to be perfectly timed," according to Scott Williams, an archeologist who had been searching for the ship. He told National Geographic, "I'm impressed and relieved."
Steven Spielberg reportedly saw a newspaper story about the legendary ship which inspired him to co-write and executive produce the film, which Sean Astin, Corey Feldman, and Josh Brolin.
Stories of the shipwreck have spread over the past 300 years, with the area's indigenous tribes passing down the legend of a ship that had vanished off the Oregon coast around 1693.
It reportedly carried porcelain, beeswax and pricey Chinese silk.
