Charlotte FC midfielder Chris Hegardt talks with Los Angeles Galaxy midfielder Sacha Kljestan after the match at Bank of America Stadium
Griffin Zetterberg-USA TODAY Sports

Back in 2010, Sacha Kljestan of the MLS team LA Galaxy visited a young man named Chris Hegardt who was diagnosed with liver cancer at just seven years old.

At the time, Kljestan gave Hegardt a jersey, and hoped that one day Hegardy would return him the favor.

Well all these years later that favor was returned, and Kljestan once again presented Hegardt a jersey once again, only this time received one from Hegardt in exchange as the two squared off as members of opposing teams in an MLS match.

Kljestan said after the game, "I think for me, the whole moral of the story there is be a good person. It didn't cost me anything to be kind to him and his family that day and if it just gave him 1% of hope or it just made him smile a little bit that day, then it was all worth it."

We've said it before and we'll say it again: There is nothing more romantic in life than sports.
