A result of the ongoing pandemic nobody saw coming was the incredibly rise in negative reviews of scented candles.
Kate Petrova, a research assistant in the psychology department at Bryn Mawr College, analyzed date from Amazon reviews, and found that though reviews of scented-candles were "relatively stable" from January 2017 to January 2020, but then experienced a "sharp drop" between January and November 2020.
And this trend isn't lost on the rest of social media, as well.
There are angry ladies all over Yankee Candle's site reporting that none of the candles they just got had any smell at all. I wonder if they're feeling a little hot and nothing has much taste for the last couple days too.

London-based PhD student Moritz Wagner also found a similar trend with Amazon reviews of perfume.
