Nicolas Cage's filmography is nothing short of impressive.

Not only is it filled with cult classics and Oscar winners alike, it's jammed full with a bevy of films that have gone straight to DVD or on-demand.

Cage is an Academy Award winner, why so many straight-to-DVD films?  Well, the 59-year-old has a very simple answer.

He had to appear in so many of these films, because his real estate investments collapsed and he desperately needed the cash.

Cage told 60 Minutes, "I was over-invested in real estate. The real estate market crashed, and I couldn't get out in time."  He went on to say it was a "dark" point of his life, but thankfully he never went bankrupt during the ordeal.

Cage clarified that he had to pay back "about $6m."

Cage has been on sort of a comeback in the last few years, with roles in the newly-released Renfield, in which he plays Dracula, and The Unbearable Weight of Massive Talent, in which he plays a fictionalized version of himself.
