We wish to extend a very Happy Birthday to Ret. Col. Glen Francis.

Francis was born November 11, 1920, has lived through 19 U.S. presidents, served in the Air Force through World War II, the Korean and Vietnam Wars, and has a 41-year career in the military. So it's only appropriate that he celebrates his 100th birthday on Veteran's Day!

Francis and his wife are regular patrons of the Main Street Café on the Downtown Garland Square. Tammy Norvell, the owner of the restaurant, pulled out all the stops for Francis, asking folks to participate in a drive-by birthday parade, as well as send birthday cards. Francis received over 100.

For his 100th birthday, Francis gave all of us a gift, some words of wisdom. The veteran said, "You've got to believe in God. You've got to believe in country. And you've got to believe in yourself. My high school teacher wrote on the board and said children remember, 'without virtue there cannot be truth, without truth there can be no other virtues.'"
