Twelve years ago, DeSoto High School football standout Corey Borner was injured delivering a tackle during practice which left him confined in a wheelchair.

That is until he walked across the stage at his college graduation.

Borner left his friends and family in shock, and many in tears, by shedding the wheelchair and walking across the stage to accept his diploma from the University of North Texas at Dallas. "It feels good to be on your feet instead of sitting," Borner told NBC DFW.

In the decade since his injury, Borner has relearned to live life from a wheelchair, and has used this opportunity to become a motivational speaker. However, he has never given up hope that he will walk again one day.

After seeing her son walk again, Borner's mother Charlotte couldn't hold back the emotion. "It's just a dream come true. I haven't seen him take a step in 12 years. Whether he was able to even do this or not, you know, I know he's going to do something that is positive. He's going to motivate people. He's here for a reason. God kept him here for a reason," she said.
