Top Gun: Maverick is currently crushing it at the box office, having reportedly earned an estimated $570 million since its release at the end of May.
However, there is another battle out of the skies Paramount Studios is facing, and it's from the family of the original author behind the story of Top Gun.
A lawsuit for copyright infringement was filed by Shosh and Yuval Yonay, who are the heirs of Ehud Yonay, the author of the 1983 article "Top Guns."
According to a complaint filed in Los Angeles federal court, the Paramount Global unit failed to reacquire the rights to Ehud Yonay's 1983 article "Top Guns" from the family before releasing the latest installment.
A spokesperson from Paramount Pictures told FOX News Digital, "these claims are without merit, and we will defend ourselves vigorously."
The lawsuit seeks unspecified damages, including profits from Top Gun: Maverick, and seeks to block distribution of the movie or further sequels.
